Commercial Solar Incentives & Rebates
There are a variety of installation options available for commercial buildings. As energy prices continue to rise investing in a solar energy system is a smart choice. In addition to the environmental benefits, businessowners benefit directly from generous solar incentives and rebates plus a 5-Year Accelerated Depreciation.

New York State Incentive
The New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) administers an incentive program to approved grid connected solar installations overseen by a NYSERDA certified installer.
• $2.50/W up to 40 kW and $1.50 per watt after the first 40 kW up to a maximum of 80 kW per site/meter, and not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs.
• $4.00/W for schools, non - profit organizations, and municipalities up to a maximum of 25 kW per site/meter, and not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs.
Federal Corporate Tax Credit
The Federal government offers a tax credit equal to 30% of installed costs for solar PV and solar hot water systems (each). As of 2009, a qualifying commercial customer may apply for this subsidy as a federal grant (refund) in lieu of claiming the tax credit.
New York Property Tax Exemption
Solar installations may qualify for an exemption from any increase in the assessed value of your property caused by renewable energy upgrades for 15 years, depending on town/city regulations. The amount of the exemption is equal to the increase in accessed value.
Corporate Depreciation
Modified Cost Recovery System (MACRS) is a corporate depreciation program where business can recover investments in certain property through depreciation deductions. MACRS classifies solar products as “5-year property” instead of “20-year property,” as previously classified. Under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 certain installations may qualify for additional bonus depreciation. See your tax professional for details.
